In a new addition to Odds Now's horse racing content, Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) will be popping in each weekday to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere.
Lee will be offering up anything that takes his eye at around 9AM each morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
It's been some start, with 6/4 and 11/2 winners put up in his first two columns. Let's see what he's eyeing today...
The handicapper has taken a swing here with Jasko Des Dames, shoving him up to a mark of 136 – 5lbs above the mark he ran off in the Grand Annual back in March.
However, the horse ran a sound enough race at the Festival six months ago, which was his sole previous visit to this track. He was still going well and about to mount a challenge when belting the second last fence.
That cost him any chance of winning, yet he stuck to his guns well enough to finish in fifth place, just seven lengths behind the eventual winner, Jazzy Matty.
He comes into today's contest off the back of a solid run over in Ireland, finishing a decent second behind Bythesametoken. That was off a mark of 129 and he went down only a couple of lengths.
Dropping back to in trip this time to a distance he's won at previously looks a shrewd move. This is also the yard's sole runner at the track today.
If he runs up to that Grand Annual form, I believe he'll take the beating here.
Mole Court comes into this with plenty to prove at present, having struggled to get competitive since his last win.
He did show signs of encouragement last time out, however. Off the back of having wind surgery and a short break, he ran okay to finish third behind Olivers Travels – albeit beaten 20 lengths.
I thought he showed up well for a long way before understandably tiring late on. Perhaps he needed the run out after having surgery and that aforementioned short break.
On the positive side, Mole Court is a course and distance winner, having won this race off this exact same mark back in 2023. He found plenty for pressure to fend off Midnight Our Fred by a half length on that occasion.
Admittedly, he ran a stinker in this race last season, finishing a well beaten 10th. But that was off a 10lbs higher mark, carrying 12st. He stood little chance under those conditions.
Off this weight, with a very capable and experienced amateur jockey on board in James King, I think he could return to form here. He'd by my pick of the three stable runners in this race and looks a nice each-way play.
