Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Let's see what he fancies today!
There's two I like in this open-looking race for a straight win bet.
Let's start with Invincible Nao, who steps up in trip slightly this time, while also dropping back in grade following a fair effort in a similar stamina-sapping test to this at Sandown last time out.
He's a proper stayer this fella, with his form having improved considerably since stepping up in trip. He's won two of his four runs over extended distances, with his Sussex National win being the best of them all.
He jumped very well that day on the whoel, ghosting his way into the race. He crept into second place jumping the penultimate fence. There was a slight mistake at the final obstalce but he found enough to defeat Dom Of Mary by a narrow margin, going past his rival in the shadows of the post.
Invincible Nao was also well backed for his most recent run. He looked to hold a massive chance three fences from home when travelling like a dream. Just when poised to challenge the leaders, he made a hash of the second last fence. That seemed to knock him sideways, finding zilch after that and beaten 11 lengths by the eventual winner O'Connell back in fourth place.
The form of this run has worked out well though, with the winner going on to finish second in the Welsh National off a 4lbs higher mark next time out. Also, the nine-lenght third Rivers Corner won two runs later off a mark of 118. Winning a similar race to this by 21L.
Based on his overall form. I believe he's got really sound claims with stamina being his strength.
I'll admit, I've followed Whistle Stop Tour off a cliff. The handicapper has dropped him another 3lbs for his last run over fences, which means he's 3lbs below his last winning mark.
I've always felt this trip is well worth exploring with this fella, given his tendency to be outpaced early doors but stay on well in his races. It could well eke out some improvement.
A mark of 127 is very lenient for this individual, in my opinion. I really thought this lad was going to be aimed at the Scottish National last season. You'd imagine if he runs well here/wins the race, that could be the plan for this term.
He ran with credit when reverting back to hurdles last time out, finishing a fair third behind Ikarak and Highland Fashion, beaten nine lengths in total. That actually represented a career best effort over the smaller obstacles, hinting he might be re-finding some of his top levels.
I think he remains well in off this type of mark, so I can't desert him now! He wouldn't be a shock winner of this race for me. He has stamina in abundance, which is a real asset in a race of this nature.
Chief Sunday reverts back to hurdles this time, dropping in grade to creep into this 0-115 event off his current mark of 115.
He's had three runs so far this term, all three over fences. He didn't really show a great deal in that sphere, hennce why the yard have decided to switch their attention back to hurdles for now – off what looks to be a workable mark.
He's now just 6lbs above his last winning mark over hurdles. He was also ridden by a 7lbs claimer on that occasion. So, he's essentially 13lbs above his last winning mark. However, that win was solid enough.
He got up to beat the rapidly improving Lanesborough by a narrow margin. The form of that win has been well advertised by the runner-up, who has since shot up 29lbs in the handicap and ran well off that new mark of 130 in the Lanzarote Hurdle just nine days ago.
If he shows that type of form here, he'd be the one to beat for me, despite the huge welter weight. This is a very weak looking affair in truth and I'm happy to take my chance at the price.
