Beauty In The Park makes her hurdling debut at Ludlow today fresh off the back of having wind surgery during her summer break.
This horse only had two bumper runs last season, with trainer Paul Nicholls clearly bringing her along carefully. She finished an honourable fourth on bumper debut when beaten just over eight lengths by the winner Charisma Cat. Looking very green, as expected, she stayed on nicely enough at the business end of proceedings and the winner went on to frank the form by placing in a listed race next time out and then winning a listed race after that.
Beauty In The Park then finished a fair third over the minimum trip at this track last time out. That day, she was beaten nine lengths by the easy winner There Runs Mary – who looks a very decent prospect having won on her hurdles bow next time out.
It's an eye-catching step up in trip to 2m5f for the selection today. She's bred to get further, so this looks a nice starting point. There's some work to do to reverse form with Annie Hathaway, having finished four lengths behind her on bumper debut. But the added distance should enable her to reverse the form if fit enough here.
Nicholls has sent out two winners and one place from just four non handicap hurdle runners at this track so far this term. She's their sole novice runner here today.
Doctors Hill makes his handicap debut here having opened his account in a novice hurdle race last time out.
An opening mark of 116 is far from a gift but you have to say, he couldn't have been more impressive when cruising to victory over 2M at Chepstow on rain softened ground. There, he beat Lasko Des Obeaux just over four lengths.
His run on hurdling debut was also rock solid, finishing a fair third behind Masked Man. That 12 length loss doesn't look bad form given the winner finished second in a Grade 2 Novice affair next time out. The runner up, Blue Carpet , also won his next start then finished a close second off 118 on handicap debut on his most recent run. Finally, the fourth-placed Tashan won next time out as well.
With those two runs mentioned in mind, you'd like to think he can get competitive off this type of mark. Confidence will be high from winning last time out and I'm backing that he can double his tally if running a similar race this time.
