Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Let's see what he fancies today!
Oh My Johnny has been dropped a pound by the handicapper for his last run, which leaves him just 2lbs above his last winning mark.
He does have a bit to prove at present, this horse. He's moving up in grade today, which brings its obvious challenges but also means he'll carry a much lighter racing weight. And that can only be a good thing, having lugged 12st around last time out.
It has to be pointed out that his two previous runs at this level have seen him well beaten both times. However, one was over far too short a trip and the second was a seasonal reappearance – so there are feasible excuses for both efforts.
As I mention, the horse's last outing saw him carry top weight last time out. He was effectively trying to give 18lbs to the eventual winner Jalisco Star, which alway looked a tough ask. Still, he finished a credible nine-length second that day which I thought was an impressive effort.
Crucially, trainer Phillip Hobbs sends this lad back to a right-handed track today. The last time he went this way round, he won a 10-runner affair in a battling finish, 11 months ago.
If he runs to anywhere near his best, I'd give him really sound claims today.
Destroytheevidence steps up in trip, which appears to be something still well worth exploring given the horse's tendency to race lazily in the early stages of his races before powering home when others have cried wolf.
He looked all over like a chaser to follow on debut. Prominent throughout, travelling and jumping well in the main before taking up the running at the final fence and powering clear for a two-length success. The horse he beat into second that day was none other than subsequent National Hunt Chase, Irish Grand National and Welsh Grand National winner Haiti Colours – and Destroytheevidence gave away 8lbs in weight to him too.
Sadly, the selection has not managed to get his head in front over fences since, despite some stellar efforts. He's gone close multiple times and you have to have some sympathy for connections given the welter weight he's currently lumbered with.
I thought he ran superbly last time out, just failing to give 9lbs to course specialist Ballycamus at Ludlow last month. That was achieved despite carrying a whopping 12st.
This is another horse who seems to benefit from going right-handed, with form figures at such tracks reading 53112. He's never been beaten by more than nine lengths across those five efforts either.
Getting his preferred direction of travel today, he is Kim Bailey's only runner at the meeting and tries a visor for the first time this afternoon. If it has any positive impact, this horse has the class to be back inside the winners enclosure.
