Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
After banging in two winners from two picks on Wednesday, let's see what Lee fancies today...
Clondaw Royale sits 6lbs below the mark he defied to win this very race last season and returns for another crack today. Essentially, that 6lbs is more like 2lbs when you consider jockey was able to claim 10lbs last term though.
He comes into this race in poor form, though that didn't hold him back 12 months ago. His form figures coming into this race last season read PUPU7. His form figures coming into this reads 768 – only managing to beat two horses home so far this term.
Be absolutely bolted up when taking this race last season, beating Lady In The Park just over 4L. It may be that connections have been eyeing a repeat success and any repeat of the level showed there would be enough to take this contest.
Regal Blue makes his belated seasonal reappearence here, having his first run since wind surgery. Admittedly, his reappearence record isn't the greatest. Not recently anyway, pulling up on his last two seasonal bows. But those were both strong Class 2 affairs and if you go back a little bit further, he is a two-time winner first up.
Jonjo O'Neill's yard were also bang out of form on those two aforementioned seasonal bows, which is far from the case right now. The yard are going great guns at the moment.
The horse sits just 1lb above his last winning chase mark. That win came in a stronger race than this one, too. He got up to beat the ultra consistent The Changing Man just over one lenght, over a slightly shorter trip than this one (3M). The front pair pulled 20+ lengths clear of Val Dancer back in 3rd place that day, with the latter is a 130-rated chaser for context. The former is now rated 143 and also placed off that mark last time out in the Coral Gold Cup.
Regal Blue also has a course win to his name. He beat Good Work 3L over 2m4f here last February and was going away at the line on that occasion. So we know the course suits him well enough He's on a nice mark at present, the yard can do no wrong at the moment and he's got a nice racing weight. I think he could well spring a surprise here if fit and ready to roll. Worth chancing at the price.
