Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled on Odds Now for SD's Lunchtime Tip, too – it lands exclusively on site between 12.30pm and 1pm every weekday.
I'm not surprised to see Carismatic Soldier is a warm order here after a very solid showing on handicap debut last time out. This horse is very lightly raced under rules, with just five outings to date. Consistency has been the order of the day thus far with form figures of 22133.
On his sole bumper run, he split two very good horses, finishing a clear second to Ma Shantou (six lengths) and a decent amount clear of Jax Junior (seven lengths) back in third. The winner is now a 138-rated hurdler, while the latter won off a mark of 135 over hurdles. Jax Junior also accounted for the talented Jeriko Du Reponet last time out on chasing bow.
The selection got his head in front on his second outing over hurdles, ploughing through the mud at Chepstow to beat Nowmelad by just over a length. The runner-up had looked home and hosed at one point, so it was an impressive finishing effort (albeit in poor visibility).
He also ran a cracker on handicap debut following a 267-day break. Initially outpaced by the first two, he stuck on gamely to go down just three lengths in the end behind Glen Road – who has gone in again since, as did runner-up One Eye On Vegas. A step-up in trip looked like it would suit there and he gets an extra 2f this afternoon.
Nudged up just 1lb for that run, today's jockey Lewis Saunders takes 3lbs off to effectively make him 2lbs lighter. Given the opposition, the fact he handles the conditions and the subsequent performances of those who have beaten him recently, it's hard to pick any holes. He takes all the beating here and rates as a very solid wager, despite the short price.
Autonomous Cloud drops back in trip here having been eased 2lbs for his reappearance run last time out. Now down to a mark of 118, amateur rider Harry O'Dwyer takes the ride on the selection for a fourth straight race, having got him up in a Hunters Chase on his penultimate start back in May.
He's back at a happy hunting ground today, with career figures at Uttoxeter of 21144. Those numbers look even better when factoring in the trip (114), with one of those victories coming off a whopping 19lbs higher mark than this today.
He even ran in last year's Midlands National at this same venue, putting in a rock solid showing to finish fourth, beaten seven lengths by Beauport despite going off a 24lbs higher mark than he does toady. So it's fair to say he enjoys himself at the venue.
With a recent run under the belt to blow off any cobwebs, paired with a favourable mark, this looks like the kind of day where Autonomous Card can put his best foot forward.
2pts win - 1.30pm Uttoxeter - Carismatic Soldier - EVS (various)
