In a new addition to Odds Now's horse racing content, Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) will be popping in each weekday to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere.
Lee will be offering up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Don't forget to keep your eyes peels on Odds Now for SD's Lunchtime Tip, too – it lands exclusively on site between 12.30pm and 1pm every weekday.
Mad Maxios has been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper after an underwhelming opening run of the season.
To be fair, he stood little chance of getting competitive on those initial terms, lumbered with 12st on his back coming off a 181-day break – and so it proved, beaten 24 lengths into fifth place.
You would think that run helped blow away the cobwebs though and the Harry Derham stable are firmly among the winners currently, which offers hope of better today.
This races does look slightly stronger on paper, though he'll carry less weight as a result. There is a decent bit of tied-in form too, given his sole win last year saw him outbattle Uhtred Ragnarson up the run-in to score by half a length – a horse that reopposes this afternoon.
At the prices, with improvement expected this time round, I think he's worth chancing.
Pepe Le Moko makes his seasonal reappearance here off what looks a potentially workable mark.
He won over this course and distance on chase debut off an 8lbs lower mark than this. He was quite impressive there I felt, winning by just over five lengths. That form aged quite well too, with the 35L third (Plisdon Pen) winning two of his next three runs – the latter coming off a mark of 111.
The selection also managed to win off a 5lbs higher mark than this at Kempton, beating Le Ligerien by a convincing 14 lengths.
Admittedly, he's lost his way since then. He failed to sparkle last season, when forced to contest stronger races with his inflated mark of 128. That proved too much of an ask.
Now he's 14lbs below that mark, freshened up by a break and returning to the scene of that impressive course and distance win. I think he's worth playing in this field.
1pt win - 2.32pm Warwick - Mad Maxios - 13/2 (Various)
1pt win - 3.02pm Warwick - Pepe Le Moko - 9/2 (William Hill/ Betfred)
Total staked - 2pts
