In a new addition to Odds Now's horse racing content, Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) will be popping in each weekday to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere.
Lee will be offering up anything that takes his eye at 9AM each morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
The handicapper has had his say with this one somewhat, hiking him up a further 5lbs for a close call last time out.
He now sits 12lbs above the mark he defied to win handsomely over course and distance on his penultimate run, making all the running on that occasion.
That was a comfortable win in the end, beating Pescatorius by just under 3L. He was value for more than the winning margin given he made an error at the final fence – and that form was franked with the runner up winning next time out.
Heaven Smart ran a mighty race off a huge weight on his most recent run. Runner up and beaten just 3/4L by the winner Couldbeaweapon.
He faced an almighty task giving 15lbs in weight to the winner. Jumping right at numerous fences proved costly in the end.
However, the winner franked the form, winning again next time out off an 8lbs higher mark. Admittedly he was handed the win with the leader falling at the 12th fence when miles clear. But still, he finished 17L clear of the runner up.
He's now up to a mark of 100. He's won off 104 in the past, so still potentially well treated off this current mark.
This is also trainer Laura Morgan's sole runner at this meeting. The yard do very well here with their runners. Particularly with their chase entrants (28% win rate, LSP +19.63 if you backed them all blindly over the past 5 seasons).
Again, the handicapper has raised this one 4lbs for a solid handicap debut effort last time out First time cheekpieces are also given a whirl this time.
Diamond Geezer is yet to get his head in front in six runs for this stable. He's finished second on three occasions though, and the form of his penultimate run looks solid enough.
He was well clear of the rest, only five lengths behind an easy winner Strackan who has gone on to win his next two races – one of which was a competitive Class 2 handicap at Cheltenham.
The selection's most recent run was rock solid, too. Making his handicap debut off the back of a whopping 295 day break, he ran a cracker behind the odds on favourite Shantou Lucky – beaten just under three lengths by the winner. When you consider he was giving 25lbs in weight to the winner as well, that was a solid run.
The winner there went on to win his next two races and was only beaten last time out off a 34lbs higher mark than the one which saw him beat Diamond Geezer.
With first time pieces on, the yard in form and running at a track the yard excel at with their hurdlers (30% win rate, LSP + 30.00 if you backed them blindly to a level stake), this looks a reasonable opportunity to get his head in front.
1pt win - Heaven Smart - 2/1 (various)
1pt win - Diamond Geezer - 6/4 (various)
Total staked - 2pts
