In a new addition to Odds Now's horse racing content, Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) will be popping in each weekday to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere.
Lee will be offering up anything that takes his eye at around 9AM each morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
It was a profitable first week of tipping for Lee – now let's see if he can take the momentum into week two...
Rosscahill makes his seasonal reappearence today, being sent straight over the larger obstacles after just three runs over hurdles.
Interestingly, each of those three hurdle runs came at this track. He was sent off a strongly fancied 4/11 favourite for his racecourse/ hurdling debut and duly obliged, beating Andy Amo just over 4L. That runner-up has won twice since, and most recently finished second in an ultra competitive handicap at the Irish Grand National Meeting.
The selection then won again next time out, dropping back in trip. He again beat another useful novice from the Rebecca Curtis stable called Ben Solo, by 2L. I suspect the runner up will prove quite useful when he's inevitably sent chasing this season.
Admittedly, he failed to fire on his handicap debut, finishing a 7L fourth behind the eventual winner, Up For Parol. That could prove to be a blessing here though, as he's been left on the same mark (120) for his chase bow.
Having won his sole point-to-point outing, I think this looks tailor-made for him to make a winning start to life over the larger obstacles.
Willmount has changed yards since his last run. Given how lightly raced he is for his age, you'd have to presume he's a hard horse to get right.
But with that being said, he's a very useful horse on his day. To my eye, he has also long promised to be a better chaser than he is a hurdler – so switching to the larger obstacles looks the right move.
He kind of lost his way for his former stable after a 12L romp of a novice hurdle win at Newbury. He pulled up in the Challow Hurdle next time out, then fell on reappearence last season. In fairness, he was still travelling well when coming down.
His most recent run wasn't as bad as it looked, either. He finished fourth behind Oh Betty, beaten 7L. But that horse has proven to be very useful since, placing in a pair of Grade 2 races – the most recent being the Scottish Champion Hurdle.
He won his sole point-to-point run, which bodes well for chasing. He beat Shannon Royale by just over 2L there. The aforementioned is now a 130+ rated horse over in Ireland for his current stable. He also boasts very strong form over fences.
At the prices, it feels worth chancing that Rebecca Curtis can get him tuned up to land this one.
