Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled on Odds Now for SD's Lunchtime Tip, too – it lands exclusively on site between 12.30pm and 1pm every weekday.
Fortescue makes his seasonal reappearance here off what could potentially prove a ridiculous mark.
Admittedly, this is a competitive looking handicap. Tiny Tetley is the unexposed runner having just his second chase run but I'd generally rather side with the experienced runner – particularly in this kind of match-up.
The selection is now a whooping 23lbs below his last winning mark, though that is more like 18lbs when you factor in a 5lb claimer on that occasion. Of course, that doesn't happen without good reason but I think there are a couple of key factors in his favour today.
Firstly, he can go well fresh, as proven last term when finishing a clear second behind the well handicapped Copperhead. Though the margin of victory was a hefty 14 lengths, Fortescue was giving 13lbs in weight to the winner. The fact Copperhead went on to win off an 11lbs higher mark a few runs later tells you this lad bumped into one there. He's 12lbs lower today.
He's also a better horse going this way around, with his four of his six career wins coming on right handed tracks. Sam Twiston Davies is booked to ride and has a fine record riding for the Henry Daly stable (+19.91 level stakes profit if you backed them all over the last 5 seasons).
Does He Know makes his seasonal reappearence with a bit to prove at present. He does lurk on a very nice mark, however.
You have to say that Dunboyne is a worthy favourite here, especially based on his last run. But form figures of 850PUPU at left handed flat tracks doesn't exactly inspire much confidence in him. Even though those outings all came in much deeper races than this one, it's still enough to make me chance my arm elsewhere.
The selection is now down to a mark of 141, which is 8lbs below the mark he defied to win the Grimthorpe at Doncaster (a similar track to this in nature being left handed and flat). He was most impressive that day, carrying 12st to victory and beating Some Scope by just over three legnths giving away 24lbs in weight to the runner-up.
He didn't manage to get his head in last term but still ran some remarkable races off huge weights. They came off higher marks than this too, with form figures 444PU33 off marks of 152, 150, 149, 149, 148 and 147 respectively.
Does He Know goes well fresh too, so hopefully the break has done him some good. This is a weaker race than the ones he usually contests and I think he's got sound claims on the pick of his overall form.
