In a new addition to Odds Now's horse racing content, Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) will be popping in each weekday to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere.
Lee will be offering up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Don't forget to keep your eyes peels on Odds Now for SD's Lunchtime Tip, too – it lands exclusively on site between 12.30pm and 1pm every weekday.
Hurdling debutant Sober Glory comes into this 13-runner affair with a perfect record, having won a hat-trick of bumpers last term to build on his sole point-to-point success.
Maidens aren't races I usually tend to get involved in – but this looks a case of a smart horse who is just a cut above his opposition. I have big hopes for this lad in the future. Chasing is where he looks set to flourish but that doesn't mean he won't pick up a couple of nice prizes over the smaller obstacles this term, too.
This isn't his first visit to the track either, with one of those bumper wins being over this course and distance. He beat Dan Skelton's A Pai De Nom by two lengths that day, while the rest of the field were nearly 20 lengths behind that pair.
His most recent success was what caught my eye, winning a listed bumper at Newbury by beating another Skelton runner in Realco by two lengths. That form got a serious boost when the third – Baron Noir – won a valuable bumper at the Punchestown Festival not long afterwawrds.
Given he clearly goes well fresh, I'd be stunned if this lad gets beat today.
Ben Solo could prove a horse to follow this season. His exploits over hurdles last term were a bit of a bonus, I'd suggest, as he looks primed to be an even better chaser.
He won over this course and distance on his hurdling debut, well supported in the betting from around 16/1 into 9/2. Racing prominently on that occasion, he kicked on three hurdles out and fended off the challenging Beau Quali by just under a length.
Though he didn't win again after that, he did bump into some smart-looking opposition. Second to Rosscahill, second to Juby Ball and second to Knight Of Allen.
With Sean Bowen doing the steering, you'd have to think he has a strong chance here and I think he'll be a horse to keep a close eye on throughout this campaign.
Palacio is another switching his attention to the larger obstacles this season. Given he is a half-brother to some very smart chasers, you'd think he will find this transition a cakewalk.
Like Ben Solo, Palacio also won on his hurdling debut over course and distance, where he beat a smart novice in French Ship with a degree of comfort. That horse franked the form when bolting up in a Class 3 handicap at Cheltenham last time out off a mark of 128.
The selection has also been winless since his Chepstow success but again, like Ben Solo, has bumped into some smart types – third behind Country Mile and Wingmen, and third behind Tutti Quanti at Ffos Las more recently.
With the stable in form and a capable jockey taking 3lbs off, he's my second play in what looks a decent race.
