Lee Butterworth (@ButtysBets on X) is back to offer his daily betting selections from the National Hunt sphere right here on OddsNow.com.
Lee flags up anything that takes his eye each weekday morning, with all stakes tracked for P/L purposes.
Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled on Odds Now for SD's Lunchtime Tip, too – it lands exclusively on site between 12.30pm and 1pm every weekday.
Siam Park comes into today's assignment off the back of a pipe opener at Newton Abbot last month.
He looked badly in need of that run last time out. Attempting to make the running over the minimum trip, he led when jumping right at the second last but then faded out quite tamely, finishing third of four runners.
The handicapper has helpfully dropped him 1lb for that outing, which means he'll go off bottom weight today – though that is also down to today's affair having slightly more depth to it.
But for me, his overall form suggests he's more than capable of winning this race. A runner-up effort to Shakeyatailfeather by just a head in his final outing of last season reads really well, given the distance between the pair was just a short head and the winner is now rated 131 following two impressive follow-up successes.
Presumably set to strip fitter for that first run of the campaign, a mark of 109 looks workable and with chase figures of 11123 to date, Joe Tizzard's only runner of this meeting could well get his head in front.
Goodwin comes into this with a bit to prove at present, having disappointed in his last two runs – so this step up in grade may not sound like an attractive proposition.
However, he has been dropped 2lbs by the handicapper and while his previous two outings at this level have been disappointing, that's too small a sample size to say he's out of his depth.
Trainer Chris Gordon excels at Plumpton– and the horse also has shown a liking for the venue in two previous visits, albeit both coming back in 2023.
Most recently, he was runner-up to the now 133-rated Emailandy, while before that, he ran out a convincing winner in beating Junkanoo by two lengths, despite giving the runner-up 6lbs.
A visor replaces cheekpieces today and given the prices on offer, I'd be surprised if this one doesn't run its race at a decent price. He's only 5lbs above his last winning mark, too.
The excellently-named Pony Soprano remains on an untouched mark despite delivering a promising seasonal reappearance last month.
Sent off the 33/1 outsider of a five-strong field in what looked a competitive Beginners Chase on paper, he finished an impressive third behind Wade Out and Wendigo. Clearly, that form has been franked again since, with Wade Out a 2pt winner for this column on Friday under a marvellous Sean Bowen ride.
The selection drops back a furlong in trip this time, with Harry Skelton taking over the steering. His maiden hurdle win came at this venue over a virtually identical trip, where he beat a fair horse in Sorceleur by two lengths. Sorceleur subsequently won his next two runs.
I'm expecting him to come on for his opening spin of the campaign and with a nice weight, he should go close.
