Carlisle takes an unusual and unexpected leading role in this weekend's racing after Haydock's scheduled meeting was moved to the northern English outpost following track issues that scuppered last Saturday's feature card.
Fear not, though – Odds Now has a three-man Punters Panel ready to take you through the upcoming action, along with a few suggested wagers.
Before we get stuck in, here’s a little bit more on the experts answering our key questions this week:
Adam Smith - A betting industry veteran, flat lover and one half of our Races Now double act.
Harry Fowler - Another of Odds Now’s regular racing contributors, currently working in the industry.
Zac Castledine - Previous Punters Panel contributor and huge horse racing lover, currently working within the industry.
AS: I thought this was a dodge race. Estrange is clearly the best horse but has been off 224 days and does not like good to firm ground. Second fav Waardah has also been off 224 days. Azaniya looks the fair each way option on the proviso that all eight run.
HF: I have no doubts Estrange is the best in here but she’s short enough on ground she doesn’t like and for a stable that’s not in good form. Waardah wants further and like stable mate Azaniya to be seen to best effect I think wants cut in the ground. With that all in mind, I think Crepe Suzette is a cracking each way bet. She hated Goodwood last time but I think we will see more like the form of her Park Hill run at Doncaster with that run under her belt and first time pieces applied here.
ZC: I think it’s a serious decision to keep Estrange in training this year. A mare of her class could’ve easily been retired for breeding, and I feel she should be winning this as a springboard to bigger targets this season.
AS: This time last week I was sat on a 12/1 ante post ticket on Princling. He was 11/4 an hour before the race when it got abandoned. Void bet. Now he's 100/30 for the rescheduled race. I'd have preferred him on the Haydock flat track rather than Carlisle's stiff finish. An extremely competitive race.
HF: I like Langstone. The performance last time at Kempton was brilliant, how has he managed to win. He was giving the second 7lbs that day and the second has since finished second again. The step up to a mile looks a plus and I’d say he is a lot better than a mark of 87.
ZC: I was seriously taken by Laureate Crown’s performance at Sandown and I fancy him to keep the winning streak going since the gelding operation last year.
AS: Nothing at Beverley for me. I do like Opportunity for the opener at Carlisle, though. Ridden way too far back on seasonal reappearance at Ascot and should be winning this with that run now under his belt. I thought much of the opposition were exposed old boys or might find this trip too sharp.
HF: In the 2:48pm, The Dancing Pirate was sent off favourite on debut at Newmarket in a race that has worked out well. There was clear support for him that day and think will take a big step forward here.
ZC: MATTEO’s performance over C&D in April was one of a colt with serious potential. He would’ve come on for that performance and Kevin Ryan’s colt is the one to beat for me in this.
AS: I think Redorange will find himself as clear fav in the 2:33pm at Carlisle. A horse in form with two good runs already this season, he can take the step out of handicap company in his stride. Starlust has been off 347 days and should be opposed.
HF: In the first at Carlisle, I think Opportunity will be winning this. The horse ran a good race after a long time off and a gelding operation last time. Only raised a pound for that third, but I think he will win here.
ZC:A quiet weekend's punting for me. Let’s keep the kitty full for a huge month in June.
AS: It's every week at the moment isn't it? Sanding bends, drainage problems, over-watering, under-watering. I've got no idea what is going on, but it's not a good look.
HF: The whole thing is a massive problem – particularly for it all to be coming at once. This year it has been farcical how many meetings we’ve had off. There has to be reasons for it all, especially looking Cheltenham and Haydock’s potholes.
ZC: I couldn’t believe what I was watching at Haydock. Seeing that stick go all the way in was quite the viewing. It was such a shame as it was a superb card, but we still saw an immense performance from Venetian Sun. She is some filly and will take all the beating at the Royal meeting.
AS: There's a two part preview Races Now YouTube and OddsNow.com from yours truly. I like two in the Jubilee Stakes at whopping prices. Time For Sandals at 50/1 and Aramram at 66/1.
HF: It looks a proper race, but I’m happy with 7/2 about Gstaad for the St James's Palace. Yes, he was behind Bow Echo at Newmarket, but for the winner that day, it was all about that day. He was as ready as he would ever be, whereas I feel Gstaad this has been the main aim, to run well in the 2000 then head over to Ireland for a penalty to kick in order to have him A1 for Ascot.
ZC: I have a few. The one which I’m most excited for is Great Barrier Reef in the Coventry. Aidan O’Brien 2YOs at Ascot – what more else is there to say?!
